Podcast lays out which fishing seasons are ending, which are heating up

Oct 22, 2023Oct 22, 2023

The temperature outside no longer feels like the surface of the sun.

As the weather becomes quite pleasant in Florida, it also means there’s more to do outdoors.

If you’re an avid angles, this is a great time of year to grab that rod and reel and head out onto the water.

However, if it’s flounder you’re looking for, you’re going to have to wait.

As of Oct. 16, flounder is off limits to harvest along Florida's Atlantic Coast until Dec. 1 as part of a recent spawning season closure instituted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

If it’s gag grouper you’re looking for, that become off limits Oct. 23.

If you want Hogfish or spotted seatrout, you only have until Halloween as that season comes to a close.

However, there are plenty of fish to catch as the Fall migrations occur.

Pompano, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and dolphin migrations are just getting going. And bass fishing is getting better, now, too.

If you can’t keep up with all of this, then you need to listen to the latest episode of “The *State* of Florida Sports Podcast,” powered by the USA Today Network.

This week, longtime Treasure Coast area outdoors reporter Ed Killer returns to the podcast to break down all the seasons that are coming to a close, and which ones are just getting going.

Ed knows the waters of Florida, so you’ll want to tune in to get his advice.

In addition, we’ll have a little fun breaking down some of the latest research being done by

Normally, they do things like ranking the best states in the U.S. for fishing.

While they haven’t released that info yet for 2023, they have done some other great research pieces.

They include which cities are best for hot dogs, and which is the city you’d want to be in if a zombie apocalypse were to occur.

OK, so those aren’t exactly hard-hitting subjects. But you’ll want to know where Ed and I have found the best hot dogs in the country.

As for the zombie apocalypse, I think we’re in the midst of that right now, aren’t we?

Whenever Ed and I get together, you’re sure to come away a bit smarter and definitely entertained.

If you love being outdoors at this time of year, then you have to listen to this podcast.
